Personal Injury

An injury caused by another person’s negligence or reckless conduct can lead to significant medical bills, lost wages, property damage, long-term reduced earning potential, pain and suffering, and diminished quality of life.

The most common type of personal injury claim involves injury from a motor vehicle accident. Other types include work accidents and slip, fall or trip accidents.

There are time limits regarding how long a person has to file a lawsuit for damages related to an accident. If you fail to take action within those time limits, you forever lose your ability to obtain compensation. Part of consulting with an attorney is determining what time limits apply to you and how best to proceed. Of equal importance, there are things that need to be done to preserve the value of your claim and the faster you take action, the better. Waiting too long to get help from professionals can hurt the value of your case, even if you are within those time limits.

It is extremely important to consult with an attorney immediately after being involved in an accident, especially if you have been injured as a result to that accident.

Successions

In Louisiana, a probate proceeding is referred to as a succession. A succession is the process of settling a deceased person’s estate and transferring any property they may own to those who would inherit it.

When a person dies, Louisiana law dictates how the deceased’s property and assets will be dispersed. Therefore, having a legal will can reduce many issues for your family. Louisiana’s laws on how property is to be distributed when a person dies without a legal will is very specific. For example, children receive preference over spouses, and in the case of separate property, even grandchildren may have more rights than a husband or wife.

Our lawyers frequently represent clients in probate disputes as well as supervise probates handled by other lawyers to ensure that our client’s interests are maintained.
